To exist and and to be significant, these are the two very distinct and yet inseparable definitions of one powerful word: Matter. And from our very first jam in the summer of 2011, we as a band have always desired to live up to this simple term that has become our identity. We do not want to simply exist, but we are constantly striving to do things that make a real difference. Whether it is found in our rigorous work ethic to make quality music and lyrical story pieces, or our personal devotion to using a portion of the money we make to help support international efforts of love and justice through Life Impact International, we are driven by our passion to be significant.

Matter creates all of our own music and lyrics, as well as all of our own album and merchandise artwork. Matter’s music is produced and recorded by the band, and the members of the band alone hold the rights to this music and its distribution. Matter’s music is also mixed and mastered by band members, namely, Daniel Griffin. And furthermore, Matter, as a band, functions as it’s own business enterprise under the sole-proprietorship of Elijah Kellogg, dba MATTER RECORDS, registered 2012. So what does that all mean for our supporters? By being an entirely self-contained, musical business we are 100% in control of our income, making it that much easier to use our money efficiently, as well as making our promised donations with the greatest effect possible. Thank you so very much for your devotion to our music and support as a friend!

Matter has the honor to advocate for and support Life Impact International. Life Impact is an INCREDIBLE non-profit ministry who are on the active front to rescue and care for children who are being sold into slavery, militia groups and sex trafficking all over the world, but most notably in South East Asia.  We as a band are so very grateful to partner with them, giving 50% of all our digital download sales to their cause, taking donations for them at shows and raising awareness to the rise of 21st century slavery and child labor.  It’s our hope that you will take some time to learn about them and how to get involved directly. Here’s their vision statement directly from their website:

“Life Impact International has two arms…one being LOVE (as demonstrated through humanitarian relief and development efforts), and the other being the POWER of Jesus Christ (as demonstrated through evangelism and discipleship efforts).

LOVE: Through practical humanitarian aid services such as, but not limited to: children’s homes for children at risk, starting and supporting orphanages and hostels, feeding programs for the poor, relief and development works, and helping the hurting within the social context of the culture and country (i.e., the oppressed women and children of Pakistan, the refugees and displaced peoples along the Thailand/Burma border, and the oppressed people inside Burma).

POWER: By preaching the Gospel and ministering to all people through outreaches and evangelistic crusades, Bible camps and seminars, leadership training, discipleship efforts, planting and supporting local churches, and general church ministry.”

Please take some time to watch their short, but powerful, introduction video “Rescued”  and then visit their website, listed on our contacts page, to get involved today!

10.28.12 The Man and The Terror

I know for a fact I speak for everybody in Matter when I say, “I cannot wait for you to hear the story we have woven together in our two upcoming two-part album: The Man and the Terror!”

It’s been a year-and-a-half process of fighting to become the band we are today, one that is finally ready to step out of the proverbial basement and start sharing our music with the world around us. As tempted as we were… OK, as I was… to completely spill the beans and facebook/blog/call/tweet/telegram/smoke-signal all about our progress and hopes and dreams, I am so glad we showed restraint and prepared ourselves for an even better introduction. We could have done it how most bands do now-a-days, you know, posting on all our social media sites something like “two weeks be on the lookout for pictures which will hint at big news that you should be on the lookout for two months from now! Stoked!” but somehow we managed to keep it bottled up. Like a good drink or fancy cheese still needing many months to reach its maximum potential, we sat on these two records for a long time. We’d write, record, rewrite, record, repeat…and if you know anything about me as a person you can imagine how I was often the one dying to just be done with it and let it all out. But “the dude abides,” and my band dudes abide… ed well.

And so now, finally, here we are releasing what I honestly believe is going to be one of your favorite albums of the year in less than two weeks and I am so happy with my band-mates’ ability and maturity to be patient. Thank you guys for teaching me so much about how taking your time with something you love will only make it that much better in the end. I hope to see this debut of ours, The Man, genuinely move you in the ways that it’s already been moving us for the past few months. Not gonna lie…It’s a dark journey. REALLY dark. And I couldn’t be happier with it. If you loved Thrice’s AITA, Brand New’s Devil and God or Defeater’s Lost Ground, then The Man is going to be a treat. But for those of you who are looking for light at the end of the root-to-4th-minor tunnel, we are excited to say that The Man‘s sequel, And the Terror will be incredibly satisfying.

So yeah, that’s all for now. November 13th, 2012, my life changes in just the slightest, sweetest way. On that random Tuesday, you’ll have the opportunity to hear a piece of my heart with The Man as I settle into a new adventure with a crew of my best friends and favorite musicians . I hope you enjoy it with all your might.

For the Kingdom, for music,

Elijah Kellogg
